SONGKRAN IN SAMUI / HAPPY THAI NEW YEAR

Am 13.4. fand der Beginn des thailandischen neuen Jahres statt. Genannt Songkran, werden an diesem Tag verschiedene Rituale, die mit Wasser und mit der Reinigung von Koerper und Geist verbunden sind, durchgefuehrt. Ueber die Jahre ist das normale Ritual (Bluetenwasser ueber die Schulter laufen lassen und weisser Gesichtskreide) jedoch etwas abgewandelt worden und es beginnen regelrechte Wasserschlachten auf den Strassen. In einigen Provinzen geht das die ganze Woche, hier auf Samui jedoch war nur am Sonntag viel los. Wir sind mit dem Auto und geschlossenen Scheiben durch die Strassen gefahren und haben ein paar Eindruecke gesammelt. Letztes Jahr haben wir kaum etwas mitbekommen, da wir am 13.4. 2013 mit Tyler aus dem Krankenhaus nach Hause gefahren sind. 

The 13th April was marked as the beginning of the Thai new year. Named Songkran this day is celebrated with many different rituals, which are in connection with water to clean body and mind. During the last years the normal ritual (to run water over someones shoulder and do some face chalk), changed a bit and nowadays there are water fights all over the land on all streets. In some provinces the celebrations are a whole week, but in Samui it was just Sunday. We drove around with the car and kept the windows up and took some pictures of what was going on. Last year we did not realize much about it, as the 13th April 2013 was the day we were released from the hospital to take baby Tyler home. 

HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY TYLER

 

 

Noch immer koennen wir es kaum glauben, aber unser kleiner Schatz hatte gestern seinen 1. Geburtstag. Bereits letzte Woche hatten wir eine kleine Feier im Kindergarten, da danach die Ferien begannen. Die ersten Fotos in der Slideshow sind von diesem wunderschoenen Tag. Gestern dann haben wir ganz in Ruhe mit ihm und seinem besten Freund Harvey und seinen Eltern verbracht. Am Morgen gab es viele Geschenke auszupacken und liebe Videos und Nachrichten von den Grosseltern und Freunden zu bestaunen. Zum Mittag sind wir dann ins Beach Republic gefahren und haben im Pool relaxt, lecker gegessen und dann gab es noch einen Geburtstagskuchen. Wir sind sehr stolz auf unseren Sonnenschein und es ist unfassbar, wieviel so ein kleines Menschlein in einem Jahr lernt. Aber nicht nur er hat viel gelernt, sondern wir auch und lieben ihn ueber alles. Wir sind nun schon sehr gespannt und aufgeregt, denn bald ist unser Urlaub ran und es geht zu unseren Familien und Freunden nach Deutschland.

  

 

We can still not believe, that our little sunshine has already turned 1 yesterday. We had a small party at his preschool last week, as they closed for holidays after that and it was very nice. the first pictures at the slide show are from that party. Yesterday we had a relaxing day with him and his best friends Harvey and his parents. Tyler opened many nice presents in the morning and was excited to get videos and messages from his grandparents and friends. After that we were off to Beach Republic, were we chilled at the pool, had nice food and a yummy birthday cake. We are so very proud of our little prince and it is simply breathtaking how much a little fella can learn in one year. But we have also learned a lot and love him from the bottom of our hearts. We are very excited and looking forward to our holidays in Germany soon to see our families and friends. 

CENTRAL FESTIVAL SHOPPING MALL

Letztes Wochenende hat hier auf Samui eine neue Shopping Mall eroeffnet. Eigentlich nichts besonderes, aber es ist die erste auf der Insel. Wir sind am Abend des Eroeffnungstages auf einen Sprung vorbeigefahren und es ist wirklich schoen geworden. Vorher konnte man vieles natuerlich im Tesco oder Big C (vergleichbar mit Kaufland) einkaufen, aber im neuen Shopping Center gibt es neben vielen Restaurants, auch Laeden wie Esprit, Zara und Mango und wohl bald auch ein neues Kino und Bowling. 

Last weekend was the grand opening of a new shopping mall. Usually this wouldn't be such a big deal, but it is the first one on Samui. We went to have a quick look on the opening day and it is very nice. Normally you can buy many things at Big C and Tesco, but at Central Festival you can find many nice restaurants and shops like Zara, Esprit and Mango. There is a new movie theater and bowling planned as well.
