VISA RUN FUN PENANG, MALAYSIA

Letzte Woche musste ich mein Visa erneuern und da Robert noch Urlaub uebrig hatte, haben wir den Ausflug zu einem Kurzurlaub gemacht. Am Dienstag ging es mit Firefly von Samui nach Penang in Malaysia. Ein kurzer 1 1/2 Stunden Flug und schon waren wir im Nachbarland. Tyler war natuerlich mit dabei und wir haben im Northam Hotel fuer 4 Naechte eingecheckt. Meine Visaunterlagen habe ich am Abend an Jim uebergeben, den ich noch vom letzten  Visa run kannte und der sich um alles kuemmerte und wir somit wirklich Urlaub hatten. In den folgenden Tagen unternahmen wir viel. Wir waren im Vogelpark, einer Schmetterlingsfarm, fuhen mit dem Zug zum Penang Berg, waren lecker essen und shoppen und haben jede Minute zusammen genossen. Mein Arbeitsvisa bekam ich am Donnerstag und Samstag ging es dann wieder zurueck nach Samui. Penang ist wirklich eine Reise wert, denn es verbindet Modernes und Geschichte. Die Altstadt mit vielen Kirchen und schoenen Haeusern steht vielerorts unter Denkmalschutz und gehoert dem Weltkultuerbe an. Die moderne Seite am Gurney Drive hingegen bietet viele Moeglichkeiten zum Shoppen und Schlemmen. Ein toller Ausflug und sicherlich nicht das letzte Mal, dass wir dort waren.

I had to get a new visa last week and since Robert had some holidays left, we made this visa run a short family vacation. With firefly we flew from Samui to Penang, Malaysia and after a short one and a half hour flight we arrived in the neighboring country. Of course Tyler went with us and we checked in to the Northdam hotel for 4 nights. I gave all my visa papers to Jim, who I knew from my last visa run and he was taking care of everything, so we could really relax and have a holiday. In the next couple of days we did lots of fun things. We went to the bird park, a butterfly farm, took the train to Penang hill and went for nice food and shopping. We really enjoyed every single minute together. My work visa was finished on thursday and on saturday we went back home to Samui. Penang is worth a visit for sure, as it is interesting and combines new modern parts and history. The old part of the city with many churches and buildings is historically awesome and some parts are under world heritage. The modern area around Gurney drive gives lots of opportunities to eat great food and do nice shopping. A great short trip and we agreed it wasn't the last time we went to Penang.
